This year Israel celebrates 70 years of independence and Poland –100 years since regaining independence after decades of occupation by its neighbors. The Polish and the Jewish peoples have a long and rich common history with many peaks but also valleys, until the Holocaust effectively ended the large Jewish presence on Polish soil.

Since Poland was liberated from Communism, it has proven to be one of Israel's closest friends. Relations between the two countries are blossoming in all fields – culture, trade, technology and tourism. In the past year, mutual tourism increased by tens of percentage points, a phenomenon that strengthens the friendship between the states and the peoples even more.
This joint stamp issue, which is not the first between Israel and Poland, along with innumerable cultural collaborations, are a testament to the increasing partnership and close relations.

During the course of the many meetings Israeli diplomats attend in various places throughout this large country, we are met with immense friendliness and frequently great curiosity regarding Israel, which allows us to organize numerous cultural and technological activities. Poland is also extremely friendly to Israel in the political realm – both in supporting and cultivating our mutual relations as well as in international forums. The most prominent example of this is Poland's abstention during the United Nations vote to condemn the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

We hope to see these joint activities continue to flourish and wish both peoples prosperity, serenity and friendship in the years to come.

Mrs. Anna Azari
Ambassador of Israel to Poland

Israel - 70 Years of Independence
As it turns 70, the State of Israel is looking back with great satisfaction and proudly reviewing the many achievements it has made along the way.

Today, as it celebrates 70 years of independence, Israel is a developed country with a strong economy and high quality of life, the life expectancy of its residents is among the highest in the world and its political standing is stronger than ever. The State of Israel looks forward with a sense of hope and security and with faith in its ability to continue to strengthen the momentum of its achievements for an even better future.

100th Anniversary of Poland Regaining Independence
The year 1918 marked a turning point in Polish history. It was the culmination of the independence efforts of Poles that lasted for 123 years of enslavement following the partitions, and at the same time it symbolized the rebirth and the strengthening of the Polish sovereign statehood. This was the overarching goal that the next generations of Poles have pursued over the last 100 years.

The ideal of fighting for independence is the distinguishing feature of Polish identity, which today becomes the foundation for building the future of Poland - a dynamic development of economy, science, and culture, while caring for moral good - which occupies an important place in the history of Europe and the world.
