The 13th Maccabiah will take place in Israel from July 3-13, 1989 (30 Sivan - 10th Tamuz). On Monday, July 3rd, at sunset, the President of the State of Israel will officially open the Games at the Opening Ceremony in the Ramat Gan Stadium.
More than 4,000 Jewish athletes from 35 countries will participate in the Maccabiah, in approximately 30 different sports. Thousands of Maccabiah supporters and tourists will visit Israel especially to participate in these great moments.
As in the past, special events such as the Opening Ceremony, a Gala Concert performed by the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Salute to Our Guests in the Roman amphitheatre in Caesarea and the Closing Ceremony in Jerusalem have been planned.
In keeping with Jewish tradition, the 13th Maccabiah is the Bar Mitzvah Maccabiah. The Bar Mitzvah will be celebrated with a programme of Jewish content demonstrating the close relationship of the Jewish people from all over the world with the State of Israel.
